Katherine Longstreth was born and raised in Manhattan where she began dancing at the 92nd Street Y with Sharon Gersten Luckman. Influential teachers include: Penny Campbell, Ann Carlson, Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, Ze’eva Cohen, Blondell Cummings, Simone Forti, Judith Jamison, Ishmael Houston-Jones, Ralph Lemon, Pam Matt, Jim May, Gloria McLean, Daniel Nagrin, Douglas Nielsen, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar and Karoly Zydenyi. She is honored to have performed in the work of Carla Mann, Danielle Ross, Blondell Cummings, Maxine Moerman, Young-Ae Park, and David Rousseve.
Her work has been presented in New York City, by the Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Broome Corner, Context, Dance Theater Workshop, David Parker/The Bang Group, Dixon Place, Movement Research, Performance Mix, and the 92nd St. Y. She curated and produced Girl Wonder for Movement Research and was selected to participate in Bessie Award-winning group, Red Dive’s sensory installation project in association with the Foundry Theater.
In Oregon she has had installations at Reed College and the White Box at the University of Oregon in Portland and her performances have been presented by Conduit and Studio 2 and featured in Ten Tiny Dances at PICA’s TBA Festival, Hand2Mouth’s Risk Reward Festival and The One Festival at the Headwaters Theater. Her work has also been shown in San Francisco by CounterPulse, in Charleston by Piccolo Spoeleto and in Toronto by the Fringe Festival of Independent Dance Artists.
She is grateful to have received support from the Oregon Arts Commission, the Regional Arts in Culture Council, the Independent Artist Challenge Program and the Institute for Studies in New Arts. She has served on artist panels and committees as well as the boards of The Field, the Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Troika Ranch and New Expressive Works.
